Regarding climate change, the industry faces scrutiny and a "credibility problem" concerning the long-standing discussion about mandatory insurance against elemental damage. The debate has persisted for over a decade, highlighting the complexities of requiring insurance beyond areas like car ownership, where it protects others. Simultaneously, the industry is reacting to the Bundestag's recent pension reform. The reform, which eliminates the guarantee of recouping contributions at retirement to allow for higher market returns, has drawn criticism from the insurance sector. The reform also restructures state subsidies, offering 50 cents per euro saved up to €360 annually.
