VK

VK, formerly known as VKontakte, is a major Russian social network and internet services company, often described as Russia's equivalent to Facebook. It operates a wide range of services beyond social networking, including email, cloud storage, and e-commerce. VK has become newsworthy due to recent drone attacks targeting Russian infrastructure. Specifically, a Ukrainian drone attack on St. Petersburg reportedly targeted one of VK's regional data centers. While VK confirmed the drone strike, the company stated that its services remained available "as usual" despite some users reporting early morning outages. This incident occurred amidst broader exchanges of strikes on power infrastructure between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing conflict's impact on civilian and technological targets. The attacks underscore VK's significance as a critical piece of Russian digital infrastructure and its potential vulnerability in the current geopolitical climate.
