Albert Korir

Albert Korir is a Kenyan marathon runner, best known for winning the 2021 New York City Marathon. He is currently newsworthy due to a recent doping violation. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on March 30th that Korir has been banned from competition for five years after testing positive for a synthetic form of erythropoietin (EPO), a substance that stimulates red blood cell production. The positive test occurred during out-of-competition testing. Korir admitted to using the banned substance, which resulted in a one-year reduction from the original six-year suspension.
