David Adeang

David Adeang is the President of the Pacific island nation of Nauru. He is currently newsworthy due to his confirmation of the country's official name change to the Republic of Naoero. This significant decision, which involved a constitutional amendment passed by Nauru's parliament and a national referendum, honors a name lost during colonial rule over a century ago. The change aligns the country's name with its traditional spelling and pronunciation in the national language, and also affects its international code and the designation for its people. Adeang was recently pictured speaking at the Boao Forum of Asia in March 2024, highlighting his role in representing Nauru on the international stage during this period of national rebranding.
