Dong Guangping

Dong Guangping, a 68-year-old Chinese dissident, has been detained by South Korean coastguards after successfully fleeing China in a rubber boat. His perilous journey, reportedly lasting over 30 hours, marks his latest attempt to escape the country, having tried on previous occasions. A friend, Sheng Xue, described his escape plan as meticulously prepared and highlighted his tenacity and bravery. Human rights organization Human Rights in China (HRIC) has called on Seoul to adhere to humanitarian principles in its handling of Dong's case.
