In October 2025, Ford commissioned an advertisement featuring former US President Ronald Reagan criticizing trade tariffs, which directly challenged then-President Donald Trump’s economic policies. This action led to the suspension of all trade talks between Canada and the United States. The ad's airing caused significant diplomatic tension, with Trump accusing Ontario of misrepresenting Reagan's views. In response to international pressure and in an effort to resume negotiations, Ford agreed to halt further broadcasts of the advertisement.
