Esther Niubó

Esther Niubó is the Consejera de Educació (Minister/Secretary of Education) in the government of Catalunya, Spain. She is currently newsworthy due to several ongoing issues within the Catalan education system. Firstly, the Tribunal Superior de Justícia de Catalunya (TSJC) has ordered the provisional execution of a ruling that annuls key points of the linguistic immersion policy in Catalan schools, a decree the Generalitat approved in 2024 to protect Catalan as the vehicular language. This ruling is being appealed. Secondly, teacher unions are protesting the government's alleged refusal to negotiate improvements to working conditions, with the Conseller de Presidencia substituting for Niubó in meetings.
