Ferran Mascarell

Ferran Mascarell is a former Minister of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya. He is currently newsworthy due to his involvement, along with four other former Culture Ministers (Lluís Puig, Joan Manuel Tresserras, Laura Borràs, and Àngels Ponsa), in filing a criminal complaint against the judge overseeing the transfer of the Sijena murals. These murals are being moved from the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) to the Monastery of Santa María de Sijena in Huesca, Spain, following a court order. Mascarell and the other ex-ministers argue that the transfer poses a significant risk of damage or destruction to the 12th-century artworks. Their legal action is seen by some as political interference in the judicial process, while they maintain it's a necessary measure to protect cultural heritage. The Ayuntamiento of Villanueva de Sijena has requested the court to reject the complaint.
