Guido Westerwelle

Guido Westerwelle (1961-2016) was a prominent German politician, serving as the Foreign Minister and Vice-Chancellor of Germany from 2009 to 2013. He was a member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and served as its chairman from 2001 to 2011. Westerwelle was known for his liberal views and his advocacy for individual freedoms. He was also one of the first openly gay high-ranking politicians in Germany. He died of leukemia in 2016. He is newsworthy because the tenth anniversary of his death was recently commemorated.
