inmates

Inmates are individuals incarcerated in prisons, facing various circumstances highlighted in recent news. In Sri Lanka, deadly clashes erupted within a prison in Negombo, resulting in numerous fatalities, indicating significant unrest and potential security issues within correctional facilities. Concurrently, in South Korea, a plan to install air conditioning in prisons has sparked public debate. The Ministry of Justice clarified that the units are intended for corridors, not cells, aiming to protect vulnerable inmates and staff from extreme heat. This initiative, while framed as a protective measure, has drawn criticism regarding the use of taxpayer funds. These events underscore the ongoing challenges related to inmate safety, prison conditions, and resource allocation within penal systems globally.
