Joanne Lees

Joanne Lees is the former girlfriend of Peter Falconio, a British backpacker who was murdered in the Australian Outback in July 2001. Lees was with Falconio at the time of the attack and was the sole witness to the crime. She managed to escape from their attacker, Bradley John Murdoch, who was later convicted of Falconio's murder. Despite the conviction, Falconio's remains have never been found, a fact that continues to cause distress to his family and Lees. Recently, on the 25th anniversary of the murder, Northern Territory Police released previously unseen photos related to the investigation, including images of the vehicle used and footage of the convicted killer, Murdoch, aggressively denying knowledge of Falconio's body location in a police interview shortly before his death. The ongoing search for Falconio's remains and the release of new investigative materials keep the case, and Joanne Lees's experience as a survivor and witness, in the public eye.
