Kawsar Ahmad

Kawsar Ahmad, a 53-year-old Australian woman also known as Abbas, has been charged with committing crimes against humanity, including slavery offenses, during the rule of the Islamic State in Syria. She was arrested at Melbourne airport along with her 31-year-old daughter, Zeinab Ahmad, by the Victorian joint counter-terrorism team. Both women are facing multiple charges, with police alleging Ahmad traveled to Syria in 2014 and participated in these activities. The charges stem from their return to Australia from Syria. Ahmad and her daughter appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court less than 24 hours after their arrest.
