Kodai Murata is a 23-year-old second lieutenant with the Ground Self-Defence Force (SDF) in Japan. He is currently newsworthy due to his arrest for allegedly breaking into the Chinese embassy in Tokyo. The incident occurred recently, and Murata is suspected of bringing an 18cm (7-inch) knife onto the embassy premises. While no one was injured, a blade was found in shrubbery on the embassy grounds. The break-in has caused diplomatic fallout between Japan and China. China has expressed deep shock and lodged a strong protest with Japan, with a spokesperson stating that the individual also threatened to kill diplomats.
