Li Huifang

Li Huifang, the owner of Heshi Peixin Kindergarten in Tianshui, Gansu province, has been sentenced to life in prison. This severe penalty follows a major food safety scandal where over 200 children and staff members were poisoned by lead-tainted food supplied by the kindergarten. Li Huifang was found guilty of producing and selling toxic and harmful food. In addition to Li, five staff members also received jail sentences. The incident, which occurred in July 2025, is considered one of the most significant food safety scandals in China in nearly two decades. The sentencing by Lanzhou Intermediate People's Court highlights the authorities' response to the widespread harm caused and underscores the gravity of food safety violations within educational institutions.
