About

Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan was a famous French musketeer who served under King Louis XIII and King Louis XIV. He is best known as the inspiration for the character of d'Artagnan in Alexandre Dumas' novel, *The Three Musketeers*. D'Artagnan died in Maastricht in 1673 during the siege of the city. For over three centuries, the location of his remains has been a mystery. Recently, construction workers discovered a skeleton beneath the floor of St Peter and Paul Church in Maastricht, Netherlands. Church officials and archaeologists believe these remains could potentially be those of d'Artagnan. The skeleton was found near where the church altar used to be. DNA analysis is being conducted on the teeth by a German laboratory to confirm the identity. The discovery is significant because it could solve a long-standing historical mystery and provide a tangible link to a legendary figure.
