Luzian Andrin Zgraggen

Luzian Andrin Zgraggen, a 26-year-old Swiss tourist, has been sentenced to one year in prison by a court in Bali, Indonesia. He was found guilty of insulting the sacred Balinese Hindu observance known as Nyepi, or the Day of Silence. Zgraggen posted a video on social media, which has since been removed, showing him walking on an empty beach during the holiday and describing the scene as "crazy." His actions sparked widespread anger on social media, leading to his arrest in March. The court convicted him of violating Indonesia's new criminal code. Nyepi is a significant religious holiday in Bali, during which residents are required to stay home, remain silent, and meditate, with most activities and public services halted.
