About

Mamitiana Rajaonarison is the newly appointed Prime Minister of Madagascar. Previously, Rajaonarison served as the country's anticorruption chief and a former senior gendarme. He was appointed by President Michael Randrianirina on March 16, 2026, following the dismissal of the previous Prime Minister, Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo, and the subsequent dissolution of the entire cabinet on March 9th. President Randrianirina, who came to power in a coup in October after youth-led protests, dissolved the cabinet without providing a clear explanation. Rajaonarison's appointment is newsworthy as it occurred shortly after this dissolution and amidst President Randrianirina's decree that all new ministers must pass lie detector tests to combat corruption. The new government, however, lacks representation from the 'Gen Z Madagascar' movement that initially supported Randrianirina.
