Mui Ka-fai

Mui Ka-fai, a 63-year-old former jewellery procurement manager at Tse Sui Luen Jewellery in Hong Kong, has been sentenced to six years and eight months in prison. He pleaded guilty to three counts of theft for misappropriating diamonds worth over HK$11.1 million (US$1.4 million) from suppliers. Over a period of six years, Mui manipulated consignment records to obtain small diamonds, which he then resold to fund his gambling habit. The court heard that he committed these thefts once or twice a month. His recent sentencing makes him newsworthy as a case of fraud and addiction leading to significant financial crime within the jewellery industry.
