Pedro Mattey

Pedro Mattey is an Associated Press (AP) photographer whose work has recently been featured in news articles detailing the impact of deadly earthquakes in Venezuela. His photographs captured significant moments related to the disaster, including passengers checking in at the Simon Bolivar International Airport as it partially reopened to commercial flights two months after the seismic events. Mattey also documented the human toll of the earthquakes, with one image showing neighbors rescuing a man from collapsed building rubble in La Guaira. His reporting provides visual evidence of the recovery efforts and the ongoing challenges faced by survivors in the wake of the earthquakes that struck in June 2026.
