Rabe Abubakar

Maj Gen Rabe Abubakar, a retired senior Nigerian military officer and former military spokesman from 2015 to 2017, has tragically died while in captivity. He was abducted along with his wife last month by gunmen while they were traveling in Katsina state, located in the country's north-west region. The military confirmed the abduction and subsequently, his death. At the time of the kidnapping, efforts were underway by the military to rescue the couple and apprehend the perpetrators. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. Abubakar's death highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria's north-west, a region that has seen a rise in kidnappings for ransom and other criminal activities.
