Sharif Osman Hadi

Sharif Osman Hadi was a prominent Bangladeshi student leader who led the 2024 student-led uprising. He was also an election candidate. His death, after being shot by a masked gunman in December 2025, sparked widespread and violent protests across Bangladesh, including the torching of buildings and vandalism of offices, notably the headquarters of The Daily Star newspaper. Hadi's death has become a significant event, referred to as the 'Hadi effect,' shaping the upcoming national elections. Tens of thousands attended his funeral.
