Sit Sou-chi

Dr. Sit Sou-chi, a Hong Kong paediatrician, has been found guilty of professional misconduct by the medical watchdog. The case stems from an incident over 16 years ago that resulted in a boy, Li Yuanjia, being left permanently disabled. Dr. Sit was convicted of failing to conduct all necessary and immediate investigations on the newborn. While the defense argued that misdiagnosis or incompetence does not equate to misconduct, the prosecution contended that the definition of misconduct includes underperformance and the circumstances surrounding it. As a result of the verdict, Dr. Sit has been removed from the General Register for nine months, though this is without suspension.
