Tulip Siddiq

Tulip Siddiq is a British Labour Party Member of Parliament for Hampstead and Highgate, and the niece of ousted former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She is currently newsworthy due to being sentenced to two years in prison by a Bangladeshi court in absentia. The court found her guilty of using her influence as a British politician to coerce her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, into granting valuable land plots to her family. Hasina herself was also sentenced in the same case. Siddiq has described the sentence as "deeply unfair." The verdict comes at a politically sensitive time, ahead of elections in Bangladesh where Hasina's Awami League is barred from participating, adding to the controversy surrounding the case and raising questions about its fairness and political motivations.
