Tulip Siddiq

Tulip Siddiq is a British Labour Party Member of Parliament for Hampstead and Highgate. She is also the niece of Sheikh Hasina, the ousted former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Siddiq is currently newsworthy due to being sentenced in absentia to two years in prison by a Bangladeshi court on corruption charges. The court found her guilty of using her influence as a British politician to coerce her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, into securing a plot of land for her family. Hasina herself was also sentenced in the same case. Siddiq has described the sentence as "deeply unfair." The verdict comes ahead of elections in Bangladesh where Hasina's Awami League is barred from participating.
