Xiao Xiao

Xiao Xiao is a male giant panda, one of a pair of twin pandas (the other being Lei Lei) born at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, Japan. These pandas are newsworthy because their recent return to China marks the first time in approximately 50 years that Japan has been without any pandas. The pandas' departure is occurring amidst increasingly strained relations between Japan and China, leading some to interpret their return as a symbolic gesture reflecting the deteriorating diplomatic ties.
