Zhang Dongmei

Zhang Dongmei has been appointed as a new deputy director of Beijing's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO). This appointment is significant as she is the first woman to hold this position since the office's status was elevated in 2023. Previously, Zhang served as a vice-president of the All-China Women's Federation, bringing her experience from a prominent national organization. Her new role places her in a key position within the central government body responsible for managing relations with Hong Kong and Macau. This development occurs amidst ongoing shifts in the leadership and organizational structure of the HKMAO, as indicated by other recent personnel changes, such as Hua Liebing's appointment to lead the discipline inspection group. Zhang's appointment underscores the evolving leadership within the office tasked with overseeing these special administrative regions.
