Imprisoned hunger striker linked to Palestine Action tells friend: ‘I’m dying’

Heba Muraisi, a prisoner linked to Palestine Action, is reportedly in critical condition on day 71 of a hunger strike at HMP New Hall in Wakefield. A visitor described Muraisi as extremely thin and weak, stating that she fears her body is shutting down. Muraisi and other prisoners, including Kamran Ahmed and Lewie Chiaramello, are protesting for a fair trial, bail, the deproscription of Palestine Action, the closure of Elbit Systems' UK sites, and an end to censorship of their communications. Ahmed is experiencing heart problems, and Chiaramello, who has type 1 diabetes, is fasting intermittently. Supporters are also demanding Muraisi's transfer back to HMP Bronzefield, closer to her family. Several authors have voiced their support for the hunger strikers.

Dozens of global writers and scholars, including Naomi Klein and Sally Rooney, have signed a declaration of solidarity with hunger-striking prisoners from the Palestine Action group in the United Kingdom. The protest, which began in November 2025, involves activists Heba Muraisi, Kamran Ahmed, Lewie Chiaramello and Umer Khalid who are refusing food to demand bail, a fair trial, and the reversal of Palestine Action's designation as a terrorist organization. The prisoners are being held for alleged involvement in break-ins at Elbit Systems and an RAF base, charges they deny. They are also calling for the closure of all Elbit sites in the UK and an end to censorship inside prison. Several other participants have ended their hunger strikes due to health concerns.
