Brown University shooting suspect died from self-inflicted gunshot wound, officials say
Claudio Neves Valente, the suspect in a shooting at Brown University that killed two and injured others, was found dead in a New Hampshire storage facility on Thursday evening. The 48-year-old Portuguese national and former Brown student died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Providence police. Valente is also suspected of killing an MIT professor at his home near Boston. Authorities located Valente after receiving a tip that led them to a vehicle he rented, which contained evidence linking him to the Providence shooting. The suspect had attempted to evade law enforcement by changing license plates on the vehicle. Valente was a graduate student in physics at Brown University from 2000 to 2001 and had no current affiliation with the university.
