Australian prime minister becomes first to wed in office
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese married his partner Jodie Haydon in Canberra on Saturday, becoming the first Australian leader to wed while in office. The couple, who became engaged on Valentine's Day last year, held the ceremony and reception at Albanese's official residence, The Lodge. The wedding was kept secret due to security concerns, but Albanese's son, Haydon's parents, and several cabinet ministers attended. Albanese's dog, Toto, served as ring bearer. Albanese, 62, and Haydon, 47, met in 2020 and plan to honeymoon in Australia next week. Albanese also made history as the first Australian prime minister to get engaged while in office.
