San Diego mosque shooting: Who were the victims?
Three victims, Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad, were killed in a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday, May 18, 2026. Authorities stated that all three played a role in responding to the teenage attackers. Mansour Kaziha, 78, a longtime mosque employee and Syrian immigrant, had called the police before he was killed. Nader Awad, 57, who lived across the street and attended prayers daily, ran towards the building when he heard gunfire to help. Amin Abdullah, 51, a security guard, was identified as having a pivotal role in preventing the attack from being worse, with police chief Scott Wahl stating his actions were heroic and undoubtedly saved lives. The two teenage gunmen were later found dead of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds, and the attack is being investigated as a hate crime.
