Bosnia and Herzegovina left vulnerable by policy clash with US, representative says
The UN High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, warned the UN Security Council about the potential destabilization of the multi-ethnic state. Schmidt stated his resignation is imminent due to a policy disagreement with the US, potentially influenced by commercial interests of a firm linked to Donald Trump Jr. His departure raises concerns about the future of his office, established by the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement to oversee Bosnia's complex political structure. Schmidt has faced opposition from Russia and Republika Srpska, particularly its leader Milorad Dodik, who has secessionist views. Schmidt's actions against Dodik, including disqualifying him from office, were aimed at upholding the state's constitutional order and multi-ethnic character, which Schmidt believes is being systematically undermined.
