Police in Turkey force ousted opposition out of headquarters as crisis deepens
On Sunday, Turkish riot police used tear gas to force their way into the Republican People's Party (CHP) headquarters to evict its ousted leadership. This action occurred after a Turkish court annulled the results of the CHP Congress where leader Ozgur Ozel was elected in 2023, citing irregularities. The Ankara governor subsequently ordered the eviction of those inside the building. Protesters inside the headquarters shouted and threw objects as police breached a barricade, though no injuries were reported. This event is described as fueling a crisis within Turkey's democracy.
