US to drastically slash number of embassies in Africa that can process visas
The US State Department intends to significantly reduce the number of its embassies and consulates in Africa that process visa applications. Approximately 30 of the current nearly 50 locations will cease visa processing in the coming weeks, leaving about 20 operational sites. This change is anticipated to occur in June, though a specific date has not been set. The information comes from three US officials and an internal memo obtained by the Associated Press. These officials spoke anonymously as they were not authorized to comment publicly.
