Indonesia arrests officials in crackdown on corruption
Indonesia's deputy minister for immigration affairs, Silmy Karim, has been arrested by the anticorruption agency KPK over alleged irregularities in the administration of immigration documents between 2023 and 2024. Karim, who previously served as director general for immigration, was questioned for approximately 10 hours before being taken into detention. The KPK has identified seven other suspects in this case. This arrest follows the recent detention of Dadan Hindayana, former head of an agency overseeing President Prabowo Subianto’s free-meals program, on corruption charges. The State Secretariat Minister expressed concern over these repeated events.
