Escape of big cat belonging to Germany’s ‘Tiger Queen’ shatters peace of small town
A tiger named Sandokan escaped from a private enclosure in Schkeuditz, Germany, after mauling a 72-year-old keeper. The escaped tiger was tracked to a nearby allotment complex and killed by police approximately 30 minutes later to prevent public danger. The injured keeper remains hospitalized. Authorities have opened an investigation into the owner, Carmen Zander, for suspected negligent bodily harm due to potential safety protocol breaches. Critics have long raised concerns about the living conditions of the eight tigers kept at Zander's facility. The incident has prompted calls for stricter regulations on keeping wild animals and demands for the confiscation of the remaining tigers.
