Oscars moving to a new home outside Hollywood
Beginning in 2029, the Academy Awards will relocate from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The move, part of a multi-year partnership with AEG, aims to provide a venue with greater seating capacity. The Academy cited AEG's experience with technologically advanced live performance venues as a key factor in the decision. The Peacock Theater, located in the LA Live complex, also hosts the Emmy and Grammy Awards. This change coincides with the Oscars' planned move to YouTube streaming in 2029, although the 2028 centennial ceremony will remain at the Dolby Theatre and be televised on ABC. The move marks a shift away from the Hollywood area, where the Oscars have been held since 2002.
