Bold shapes and binoculars: Frank Gehry’s stunning California architecture
Frank Gehry, the Canadian-American architect known for his unconventional and deconstructivist designs, died at 96. Throughout his career, Gehry transformed American architecture with bold shapes and unusual materials. His California works include the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, gifted by Lillian Disney, which features stainless steel waves and an interior designed around acoustics. Gehry's Santa Monica residence, renovated in 1978, showcases exposed materials and tilting windows. Another notable project is the Binoculars Building in Venice, originally commissioned as an office building with a towering binocular-shaped entryway.
