Landslide Leaves Town in Sicily Perched on a Cliff’s Edge
A landslide in Niscemi, Sicily, triggered by intense rain from Cyclone Harry on Sunday, has left part of the town teetering on a cliff's edge. The widening chasm, stretching for 2.5 miles, has destroyed buildings and threatens the historic city center. As of Wednesday, the hillside was still crumbling due to continued rain, increasing the danger. Over 1,500 residents have been evacuated from neighborhoods near the chasm, where homes and infrastructure are perched precariously. Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the area, which was one of the towns worst hit by the cyclone.
