E Jean Carroll demands Donald Trump pay $5.8m in damages from 2019 case
E. Jean Carroll is demanding Donald Trump pay $5 million in damages awarded to her by a civil court, following the US Supreme Court's decision to decline his appeal. Carroll's lawyers have requested an expedited resolution for the payment. Judge Lewis Kaplan has agreed to this, ordering Trump's legal team to respond by July 7. Carroll initially filed a defamation lawsuit in 2019 after Trump denied her allegations of rape and accused her of lying. She later filed a second civil suit in 2022 for defamation and battery, citing Trump's public statements calling her claims a "scam" and "hoax." Trump has consistently denied Carroll's accusations.
