Washington DC’s Fourth of July parade canceled due to soaring temperature
Washington D.C.'s Fourth of July parade was canceled late on the eve of the event due to an extreme heat warning issued by the National Weather Service. Organizers, in consultation with the National Park Service and the municipal government, made the decision as temperatures were expected to reach as high as 102°F with heat index values between 110-115°F. This extreme heat has also impacted other semiquincentennial celebrations, including the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, which temporarily closed on Friday due to heat-related illnesses among visitors. Despite the parade's cancellation, President Trump is still scheduled to speak at the fair and attend a fireworks show.
