Pope Leo urges migrant protection, integration on visit to Lampedusa

The visit included a prayer at a migrant cemetery and a visit to the "Door of Europe" memorial.

Lampedusa, located near Tunisia, hosts an overcrowded migrant reception center with difficult living conditions, and many migrants undertake perilous sea crossings in poorly maintained vessels. This year, over 1,400 people have died or gone missing attempting to cross the Mediterranean. The Pope met with migrants, rescue officials, aid workers, and the Italian Coast Guard, offering his continued support and encouragement.
