Heatwave and high humidity to blast much of US: ‘impactful to anyone’
A dangerous and prolonged heatwave is expected to affect much of the central and eastern United States for the upcoming week, with temperatures rising ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. High humidity will exacerbate the heat, creating heat indexes of 100-110°F, potentially reaching 115°F, which the National Weather Service (NWS) states could impact everyone. Millions are already under heat risk conditions, and several cities could experience their highest temperatures of the year. This heatwave is occurring alongside severe wildfire conditions developing in the West, where hot, dry, and windy weather has intensified fire activity. The NWS advises limiting outdoor activity, staying hydrated, and seeking air-conditioned spaces.
