Everest guide survived six-day ordeal by eating chocolate and 'chewing ice'
Everest guide Dawa Sherpa, also known as Hillary Dawa Sherpa, has been found alive after a six-day ordeal on the world's tallest mountain. He was spotted by a cleaning crew sliding down the mountain and has since been receiving medical care at Kathmandu's HAMS Hospital. Doctors report he is stable and his dehydration is improving. His family, who had begun funeral rites, expressed immense relief and surprise upon learning he was alive and seeing photos of him. Dawa Sherpa reportedly survived by eating chocolate and chewing ice. This season has seen over 1,000 summits of Everest, making it the busiest on record.
