Maine progressives race to find Platner replacement as centrists call for ‘normie Democrat’
Following Graham Platner's withdrawal from the Maine US Senate race due to sexual assault allegations, progressive groups are scrambling to find a replacement. Our Revolution has endorsed Troy Jackson, former Maine state senate president, positioning him as a continuation of Platner's anti-establishment message. Congressman Ro Khanna and streamer Hasan Piker have also backed Jackson. However, some progressives are hesitant, and centrist Democrats see an opportunity to nominate a more moderate candidate. Nirav Shah, a more centrist figure, has also entered the race. The Maine Democratic state committee will select Platner's replacement at a nominating convention by July 27th to face Republican Senator Susan Collins.
