DR Congo takes Rwanda to international court over decades of conflict

The Democratic Republic of Congo has filed a case against Rwanda at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), accusing its neighbor of violating multiple international treaties. Kinshasa alleges that Rwanda has deployed forces and supported armed groups for unlawful military operations on Congolese territory since the 1994 Rwandan genocide. The Congolese Justice Minister stated that the country seeks accountability for alleged breaches of conventions related to genocide prevention, racial discrimination, women's rights, and torture. The DR Congo's application requests the ICJ to order Rwanda to cease these alleged crimes and provide reparations. Rwanda has not yet responded but has previously denied backing rebel groups in the DR Congo.

The ICJ confirmed receipt of the application, initiating the legal proceedings.
