Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong set for September sentencing in second national security case

Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong is scheduled for sentencing on September 2nd in a case under the Beijing-imposed national security law. Wong was arrested in June 2025, accused of conspiring with others, including Nathan Law, to solicit foreign sanctions against Hong Kong or China between July and November 2020. Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung is expected to plead guilty to a charge of conspiring with a fugitive former lawmaker to collude with foreign forces six years ago. The High Court has scheduled a plea and sentencing hearing for the 29-year-old on September 2, indicating his intention to admit the charge. This offense falls under the Beijing-decreed national security law and carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The court has not yet announced the venue or presiding judge for the hearing.
