First Kenyan to play in NFL deported under Trump immigration crackdown

Former NFL player Daniel Adongo, the first Kenyan to play in the league, was deported in June for overstaying his visa and multiple arrests. Adongo, who played for the Indianapolis Colts, had his visa expire in 2016 but remained in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stated he was arrested multiple times for offenses including felony intimidation and battery, with a criminal mischief conviction in 2020. Supporters argue his conviction was a misdemeanor, charges were dismissed, and his mental health worsened in detention, suggesting he may have CTE. ICE stated Adongo faced charges under the Laken Riley Act.
