Asian scam gangs snare educated English speakers with fake job ads: UN agency
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is reporting a significant increase in the trafficking of individuals, many of whom are educated English speakers, into online scam centers, primarily across Asia. These victims are lured by fraudulent job advertisements, often found on social media, promising employment abroad. Upon arrival, their identity documents are confiscated, and they are subjected to violence, threats, and debt bondage to force their participation in criminal activities. The IOM Director General stated that victims are being trafficked from over 80 countries, with the caseload continuing to grow.
