US signs deal to boost Patriot and THAAD missile parts production

The US has entered into a deal exceeding $3 billion with Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman to increase the production of parts for Patriot and THAAD interceptor missiles. This agreement, announced by the Pentagon and Northrop, aims to address strained stockpiles due to ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. The deal follows a separate, larger contract awarded to Lockheed last week for up to $58.6 billion to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. The US has been supplying significant arms to allies and utilizing munitions in conflicts, leading to concerns about its inventories of air defense and precision-guided weapons.

The U.S. Army awarded Lockheed Martin a contract exceeding $58 billion for Patriot interceptor missiles, converting a previous one-year agreement into a seven-year deal. Northrop Grumman announced its share of the agreement surpasses $3 billion.
