Remaining 89 kidnapped Nigerian Christians released from captivity

In Nigeria, the final 89 Christians kidnapped from three churches in Kaduna state in mid-January have been released. The worshippers were abducted during Sunday services on January 18th, part of a larger wave of mass abductions targeting both Christians and Muslims in the country. Kaduna state governor Uba Sani confirmed the release, stating that a total of 183 people were initially abducted. Eleven people had previously escaped, and 83 were returned about three days prior to the final 89 being freed. The attacks have drawn international attention to the ongoing insecurity issues in Nigeria.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) announced the release of all 166 villagers and churchgoers kidnapped in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna State, Nigeria, last month. The abductions occurred on January 18 when gunmen attacked the village and churches, taking 177 people into the forest, though 11 later escaped. While CAN provided no details on how the release was secured, local media cited the Kaduna State Governor confirming the return of 82 abductees. The Nigerian government has yet to officially confirm the release of all 166 individuals. Initially, Kaduna State officials denied the attack before later admitting to the abduction and promising assistance.
