White House to meet AI firms on advanced model safety

The Trump administration's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is reportedly developing a measure to ban US imports of new Chinese datacenter components, specifically optical transceivers. This action is seen as a response to China's rapid advancements in AI technology. Sources suggest the FCC hopes to publish this measure this year, though it could be modified or shelved. Concerns cited for the potential ban include the risk of Chinese firms stealing data, installing malware, or disrupting services within US infrastructure.
